Well we do seem to be charging through the year quite quickly now. The days are getting brighter, it’s starting to feel a little warmer outside and the dome is being removed as I type, so all is well in the world of CIYMS!!!
March has been a very busy time for the club. We had a quiz night on the 1st March with proceeds raised going to our Visually Impaired tennis programme at the club VI@CI. The committee were overwhelmed at the fantastic response from our members. Not only did we raise a whopping £1200 but more importantly we had a packed house of quizzers. A special thankyou to our Captains Chris and Liz and to our quizmasters Denis and Tracey.
The Captains St Patricks Day Tournament took place on the 18th March and despite competing with the final matches of the 6 nations, we had a successful day of tennis and stew.
Our junior members have been very active in the club this month. The new tennis term started for our red, orange and green classes and these are proving to be very popular.
Johnny introduced a new Internal Junior Championship event which was held from 24th-26th March. As always, Johnny arranged an A & B category so players of all abilities could enter. These tournaments are a great way to improve confidence in our young players and encourages them to play competitive tennis matches which in turn strengthens our club overall.
Congratulations to everyone who took part with a special mention to Boys Singles (A) runnerup Robbie Barnett and winner Sam Jackson, Girls Singles (A) runnerup Eva Morrison and winner Tara McCombe. Boys Singles (B) winner Sam Irwin and Girls Singles (B) winner Rebecca Kingston.
March also saw the departure of Richard Barnes and the arrival of his replacement Chris Shiels. We welcome Chris to CI and look forward to working with him.
